Giving feedback in English? No problem!

Are you good at giving feedback? Some people see giving feedback as a boring duty, though actually it is a great tool for changing the world around! Praise something that you like – and the person will definitely try to do it more frequently. Criticize something that is done poorly – and the quality will improve. Be concise, phrase your feedback in a polite manner – and the result will exceed your expectations!

► Positive feedback (Положительный отзыв)

• Well done! –

• Nice work! / Great job! –

• First class! –

• Impressive work!

• Very professional! –

• I was quite impressed with...

• It was amazing / great how you were able to...

• I appreciate that you were...

• I am very pleased with...

• I'd like to commend you for...

• As a token of appreciation... –

• I am thankful to you for – Я благодарен вам за...

• Nice job! It was amazing how you were able to trace the connection between two businesses.
• Impressive work, Alex! I am very impressed with the way you manage your team! No shouting, no reprimanding – and they are efficient and enthusiastic! It is drastically important to be a supportive manager. As a token of appreciation, I have put you on our corporate promotion list.
• Caroline, it is first class work! I would like to commend you for the clarity, with which you have exposed the drawbacks of our business-plan. We really needed your point of view.

► Negative feedback (Отрицательный отзыв)

• I've noticed that the team has some problems communicating. Catherine says that Dereck didn't give her the requirements for the report. Is there anything I'm misinterpreting?
• I have found a few mistakes in your yesterday email to the client. Please, take some time to re-read and re-check your emails before they are sent. I am giving you this feedback because I want you to succeed.
• Jeremy, I can see some difficulties with this application form. How about adding more details in the «Previous Records» section? I am saying this, because I believe in you and what you are capable of.

• Emma, I really like this presentation! The infographics are very impressive and if you organize your conclusions in a structured manner, you will have a set of very strong points.

Watch out!

• They employ a total of 200 staff.
• The staff is very proficient.

• I’ve got some sticky stuff on my shoe.
• What is this terrible stuff? – I think it's Mary’s apple pie.
• You will find a lot of interesting stuff in this book.

Sounding natural!
We'll cross that bridge when we come to it means Let's not talk about that problem right now.
Example: And how about his promotion? — We'll cross that bridge when we come to it. We have a lot of work to concentrate on right now!
